Re: Dooms of Utterby

I'm an idiot. I read Utterby, not Laketown :P I wouldn't have asked if I had read beyond 'vote'. ETA: And to clarify. Citizen/denizens make a lot more sense for Laketown. It's in Utterby I find it to be a bit counter-productive. Maybe we've been discussing Laketown this whole town and I just haven't...

It doesn't.
Awesome. So people are just misinformed? Then I'm happy as a clam. I just keep hearing that leather has overall higher protection than mail. As you can see higher up in this thread!

Re: Suggestions

I'm also not sure as to why just giving severe penalties to hide/sneak isn't enough? I mean search and scan are all int checks, and it must be checking against something, right? Or how does it work exactly? The way that hide works is you're either fully hidden or you're fully not hidden to anything...

I still don't understand why mail protects less or the same as leather. It takes 2 minutes to change and I've yet to hear a single argument as to why this is the case. Re: Let's talk Lore and Utterby and Artisan's Union

The problem: -------------------------------------------------------------- The artisan's union is not mentioned anywhere in the lore. Not a single mention that I can find. And since the AU is an admin created and run organization, this is weird. You cannot create an all-powerful organization that ...

Re: Let's talk Lore and Utterby and Artisan's Union

You said you wanted Utterby to have an elected mayor. That's a democracy. Laketown is the only democracy in Middle-Earth. Games like this don't hatch out of the egg fully-grown, you have to write the lore for them. I don't understand what you're getting at. Of course there isn't as much documentati...

SoI, old and new, puts way too much emphasis on leather armor. Waaay too much. It has little basis in the lore and very little basis in the material that inspired the lore (history). I think history would like to have a word with you here and here . Mail should be the standard for anyone who wages ...

Re: Dooms of Utterby

I really don't like the idea of citizens/denizen. It's a bad system for a settlement like this. It actively discourages people to come to Utterby. I mean, why would I, a hunter in Laketown, uproot my entire life to head for a warg-infested, orc-riddled, death trap, if I don't have the same rights a...

Re: Let's talk Lore and Utterby and Artisan's Union

Actually you're right, I did miss a portion of that thread. I just read the dooms. However, reading it now it's still not established lore. It's proposed lore. And to me, it doesn't actually change any of what I've written. In fact, it seems to confirm most of the assumptions I've made. I maintain t...

Let's talk Lore and Utterby and Artisan's Union

Warning, long post incoming. Also, remember these are opinions. I use words like 'flawed' a fair bit. That's 'flawed' in my eyes, others may disagree. It's not an empirical statement. Ok, so, I've gone through the wiki. Here's something that stands out to me: Utterby is a free settlement. It was fou...

In my experience basic leathers are abundant. You just need to talk to people. Of course, if you play a character that's not likeable you'll have a harder time. But I don't think any of my characters have struggled getting basic leathers. Just talked to people. ETA: I don't think we need to put syst...

Re: Suggestions

So, in regards to AHs. Prices can be set in shops. People can see what people are selling things for by doing market research, i.e. walking to shops and looking/talking to people. Money can be taken out of the economy by applying taxes to sales. VNPC sales can be altered in shops. In other words, th...

Re: Suggestions

Wait, does the PCs not have control over the pricing of goods in their shop? Didn't they use to? If not, that's an absolutely massive oversight and should really be addressed. I've always been under the impression that they had this power. If that's the case I'll have to re-assess my stance on produ...

Re: Armor Layering

The imbalances come from how the system receives a damage-type noun and decides which piece of armor to compare it to on the AC chart. The +1 bonus AC on top of that isn't too awful, by itself, but further compounds the issue. Additionally, If I wear leather armor with ++ bonuses to skills (like sn...

Re: Armor Layering

To me layered armor makes perfect sense. Most people in chainmail would have had layered armor in the books. Chain without thick padding, a gambeson, underneath loses a great deal of its protection value. Though I am not entirely sure it should pick the strongest against a certain weapon. The downsi...

Re: Suggestions

SW has the right sentiment, but to me he misses several points. The "useless" crafts adds an atmosphere, a feeling and a purpose to people who do not want to go out and fight snow trolls. Plenty of people on all muds with a crafting system enjoys these useless crafts. It would be a mistake to take t...
