Re: Weapon Damage Echoes

There used to be oprogged weapons at one point where you could switch between damage types at will. That was especially useful to people who had seen the released codebase and knew which damage types did better against which armors. It's probably better to stick with one damage type to avoid getting...

Re: What is Shadows of Isildur?

What IS Shadows of Isildur? I cannot answer that, as I'm not currently playing. What SOI *was*, however, and what it means to me... Shadows of Isildur was a place where roleplay was paramount to all else. It was about telling stories. Not all of those stories were about heroes or heroines. It was ab...

Re: How Do We Do This Thing?

As for "vision" keepers, putting any single person in charge of a "vision" is stupid - and I mean sticking a fork into an electric outlet kind of stupid. The "vision" should be the collective wishes of the entire community which is properly considered, analyzed, argued, and decided upon by the admi...

Re: PVP General Thread

Rules of Engagement: Before combat, one must first become limber. Three uses of the sit and stand command are required. Once that has occurred, introductions must be made. Please state your name and account name. Then, identify your target by stating their name. Please provide a compliment to them....

Re: Middle Earth behavior and you

Gender roles Think about 1940's Europe and America. Think about WWII propoganda. Think about the mindset of the world Tolkien was living in when he wrote these stories. Now think about gender roles in the books (and, for the sake of inclusion, the movies). Women and men held very different roles no...

Pretty much echoing everyone here:

Game of Thrones
The Walking Dead
Mad Men
Even though it's ended, House still has my heart.

Might try out Hannibal and House of Cards over the summer.

Re: Avoiding a Derail, Re: RPP, Costs, Relevance as Trust

So, just for people's reference, these are the original RPP guidelines for SOI from about 2006: What Are Roleplay Points? Over time, players here at Shadows of Isildur may amass units of confidence from the staff we call "roleplay points". They are given out by staff members for various facets of ex...

Re: What's the Deal With Retiring?

I retired my longest living PC on SoI, but only after playing that character for years, and living well beyond any expectation I had of doing so. I'm 95% sure that the PC you're referring to here is the one I'm thinking of, and man do I regret not having done more with the relationship between our ...

Re: Amount of skills

The cooking skill, is that necessary for all cooking? Or could someone subsist on some basic foods without it? Do you have the cooking skill Thorongil? Would you say that you "subsist" on your cooking abilities? I'm no gourmet chef, but I can cook well enough to survive. What I'm asking is whether ...
