It's interesting to see that very few of the longest played characters are Mordor players, whereas a significant number of the most time played per account are either primarily Mordor or at least regular Mordor players.
Mordor players were dedicated but bad at keeping themselves alive.

True story. When I first joined the SOI staff, almost the first thing I did was read my own account notes. I had my share of twinky stuff I'd done when I thought nobody was watching and amazing RP moments that I had hoped had been noticed. I was interested to see what staff thought of me. I actually...
Back when chargen was game-based, you didn't have to set your own keywords because the game genned them for you. Not sure if it's possible for the game to generate keywords via a web-based chargen client, but I'm hardly a coder. As it stands, yeah, guides/staff need to pay more attention to that ja...
Another fun fact - Zapata nearly firing me for laziness because I was a bit of a do-nothing RPA at first. His warning made me up my game though, and now he's one of my closest friends so it all worked out for the best. Japheth as an upstanding admin-who-is-no-longer-an-admin-and-therefore-we-can-ho...
I had absolutely no idea, but it makes sense as I remember back when I first started you and Zapata were always working together on MM. Another fun fact - Zapata nearly firing me for laziness because I was a bit of a do-nothing RPA at first. His warning made me up my game though, and now he's one o...
Made an account sometime in early 2004, made a PC in Osgiliath. I was brand new to RPIs at the time and couldn't figure out who was NPCs and who was PCs or how to engage with the MUD at all, and ended up quitting. Came back when they reopened Minas Morgul (saw it in the weekly newsletter I'd kept ge...
CMUD's mapper does tend to rely on MXP tags for identifying which bits of the text coming in are room descriptions. You CAN configure it to work without it but it's not easy. Alternately you could convince the SOI admins to add MXP tags to their room descriptions and it will all work pretty well wit...

Just curious, when the game supercrashes and stays down for more than a second, if you caused it, do you still get the OMG! SOMETHING IN "<COMMAND YOU ENTERED>" BLEW UP THE GAME. STOP IT. Or do those only show up on minor crashes? I always get worried when I'm in the middle of something and the gam...

From my personal point of view, the ban on PKing was the biggest mistake. I can understand why staff made that decision because it looks, on paper, to be a good thing - but it's actually really harmful. It probably would have been okay if it was more like "Okay, we need a little bit of time for both...

Regarding the progs, if Staff ever wants help in planning, designing or debugging progs - I am always available to help. You don't need to do anything especially advanced with them to really bring things to life.

Does it bother anyone else that the board clearly used whatever capitalisation you used when you first registered, to display your name? I would very much like to have my capital J, but don't seem to be able to fix it up afterwards. Is there any legitimate reason for the board to not capitalise the ...
Here is a source on a few of the known Black-Speech words in Tolkien's work, many of which have traditionally been used by Orcs in SOI's cannon (particularly things like Snaga, Skai, Pushdug, etc.) http://folk.uib.no/hnohf/blackspeech.htm Additionally, the words "Tark" (Human) and "Ghash" (Fire) are...

Probably an Explorer / Socialiser. I do however take a while to get around my character's "mindset" and truly understand how they think, so I tend to try to avoid the Socialiser part until I know that much - otherwise I end up playing my character in ways I later regret or that didn't fit the concep...
