Re: wearing hoods and skulking in the halls

It should be common knowledge that orcs are often mistrustful of their fellow orcs. Considering the warband's many goblinoid rivals and enemies, and the likelihood of a member of the Vadok trying to stab another member for their shiny trinkets, I feel it makes sense for most people to be extremely ...

Re: Client Configurations

Anyone know of any browser-based clients? SOI used to have one but I can't seem to find any. It'd give me a chance to play at work :?

ETA: Nevermind, found quite a few after some more searching.

Re: Fleeing: What does it mean and should it be more relevan

I'll get mad about a really crappy PvP encounter but only briefly. I think the trick is to just look forward to the next PC and try and have an even better idea. This. Death has and always will be a part of SOI. It is inevitable your character will die eventually - just be glad this team doesn't ki...

Re: Losing interest

Yes, staff has always had a no humans in vadok / no orcs in utterby rule. Tis because people abused it on old SOI and invariably created frankly absurd situations. so what motivation is there for orcs to not just kill everyone they defeat outright? I prefer capturing hostages over the idea of just ...

Curiosity. I figured if we're expected to portray our characters in a certain light, to best reflect the world that Tolkien created, then there may be someone more knowledgeable than I in all things middle-earth within the community to share their thoughts/opinions. Edited to add: The reason for my ...

Marriage

I've done my own searching and can't seem to find any real definitive information on how Tolkein perceived marriage in his world. As many married characters as we have in-game, what are your thoughts? In The Letters of J.R.R Tolkein he writes: Only a very wise man at the end of his life could make a...

Re: [Feedback Request] Current Armor & Weapons

I don't think anyone is for nerfing Bludgeon damage into the ground, we're to balance it out with the other weapon types. Currently Bludgeons are the only weapon type that I know of that can affect your effectiveness -during- combat with concussions/winded. You can survive a few ticks bleeding and s...

Re: [Feedback Request] Current Armor & Weapons

It's got nothing to do with armor. Nobody wears maille because it's heavier than oiled leathers and has no real AC benefit so you make a moot point. People use blunt weapons because of the trauma code. You can drop a player to his knees with a crit, armor or no, and consistently do it which no other...

Re: [Feedback Request] Current Armor & Weapons

Just echo most of what has been said here; Metal armor needs to be better relative to leather. Long-edge doesn't seem to be better then polearm or bludgeon. I agree short swords should do less damage then long swords but long-edge in general needs to be beefed up somehow because of the two skill re...

Re: The great wishlist

This is a pretty poor suggestion from an Alpha player. As long as people are revived from clear bugs(and that policy exists, somewhat) whenever possible, the balance of the game needs fiddled with. Trolls in particular should not be 'lol let's throw more at them' opponents, but rare and incredibly ...

Re: The great wishlist

Newblets dying is less a problem with the game's difficulty level and more a problem with the failure of sphere leadership to grab newbies/drag them in/educate them(and a failure of the game to guide newbies into the clans that would do this). No amount of safety(besides 0 danger) is going to stop ...
