Re: Crafting Additions Discussion

Then decrease the 50 bites and 100 sips thing to a reasonable size and it won't be ridiculous to have giant timers for something that's disposable, constantly required, and pretty much cosmetic.

Re: Crafting Additions Discussion

Are we going for realism or playability? If so, if you're raising timers, can you make it so you don't need 50 bites of food to feel full per meal? I don't think this should go both ways.

Re: Crafting Additions Discussion

I'm probably going to regret this suggestion, but I think "several-meats" might need a bigger timer. The "plain-meat" craft is 5 minutes, and the timer for the mass craft is only 15 for cooking ten times the amount of meat. It should probably be 30 minutes if not an hour, so there's a tradeoff betw...

Re: Questions and comments about forum behavior

Jim, I think the problem is that you're working to solve issues that just don't exist as you see them, or aren't as critical to this community as you put them forward. The only way you're going to know what is critical and the context of how to discuss the issues is if you're participating. Otherwis...

Re: Questions and comments about forum behavior

You could resolve not to play. You could decide to play. In the end, it's your choice to make, and I don't think anyone is going to try forcing you into either (which just won't work). Do what feels right. I will say it's probably premature to form opinions on the player base or staff or game by not...

Literacy

When will people be able to take these as a skill? Other skills exist which are currently useless, such as gardening, baking, so on. Is everyone in Utterby meant to be illiterate for a reason? I don't think that level of illiteracy really makes sense with the Tolkien setting, if it is at all intenti...

I think you're using a term that has a history that doesn't seem to line up with how you're using it. It's still derogatory, and I still think it's mostly imaginary.

Re: Shadows of Isildur Wishlist

As far as I can tell, the superfriends thing originated from some kind of paranoia about a nebulous group of players with RPP, who were accused of collaborating OOCly to get more awesome. I'm still just stuck on this being some kind of underdog complex. A lot of it is in false perception of just how...

Might have to go with 'status corruptpfile?' since 20 characters is the maximum you can use with set status.

Re: Food value

Having to eat ten steaks to be full is pretty mind boggling. It would be neat if the portions were made a little more realistic, and for balance reasons, maybe food was scarcer if it had to be. Making required portions of sips/bites really giant just makes the mechanic seem really ugly and not very ...

Re: Middle Earth behavior and you

As a member of a couple of the categories above which are probably out of canon for Tolkien, I don't think it would be reasonable to say they simply don't exist. That would mostly exclude women in traditionally masculine roles, homosexual orientations, non-heteronormative gender binaries, etc. I kno...

Re: Utterby Wish List

If we want to start on it, female characters should be lumped into glossing over gender, too, as there really isn't a lot to go on in Tolkein's world. I think a measure of imagination has been required help to fill in that gap, as most female-playing players probably have in all of SoI's long years....

Re: Relative Location of Locations

There's a pretty nice interactive map here , though it's not specific to our area of the world (and non-canon places, of course). Maybe we could ultimately slap together our own. I was going to offer some basic interactive map skills that I have - Mapbox or Openstreets are both capable of having mul...

Re: Opinions on a Character Page Wiki

I really like that idea. If there were rooms in the commencement, one specific to orcs and one specific to humans, where there was a board for people to read basic who's who in their area - maybe with the same board accessible in whatever popular common area, I think that would be great.

Re: Length of Full Description

I like thinking about the format of full-descriptions and how they fit a character. If it's a character who is really verbose or vain, I like them really long and purple. If it's a character whose character is nondescript, it's nice to describe them in very concrete, brief language. Probably very me...
