Thanks to staff and players for keeping the game going

I've never actually played the game, and I don't know if or when I ever will, but I'm just popping my head in to say thanks to everyone who has helped keep the game going, so I *can* play some day, if that ever works out for me.

Re: Love <3

jdidds, I don't imagine that your suspicions etc., that are getting in the way, are going to go away overnight. That may or may not mean that you'll lose her. She might still want to be with you, even with all that. Actually, it might be harder for you to learn to live with yourself, than for her. T...

Re: Love <3

jdidds, this thought came to me: Zoom out. And maybe, zoom in. To zoom out, for example, think of the situation you're discussing here as part of a much larger picture, then zoom out, and look at the rest of the picture all around. To zoom in, for example, look at one small part of the situation you...

Re: Online Games: Literature, New Media, and Narrative

My responses to some of the survey questions: Question 7 How do you identify your current activities? Improving myself to help improve the world, working with neighbors to help improve community life for every person, learning to serve the best interests of communities I'm part of, learning to be a ...

Re: Online Games: Literature, New Media, and Narrative

Well, the sneakiest way to do it would probably be to have enough current players genuinely interested in the course to form a "Shadows of Isildur" discussion/study group on the forums ... and tempt people in that way. Actually watch the lectures, and have the 'compare and contrast' discussion root...

Re: Possibilities for chatting between players?

RiderOnTheStorm, Rivean and Eltanim, thank you. You've really gotten to the heart of what I was thinking. Rivean, I agree, after some consideration I don't think that having an easier way to socialize outside of the game would do much, if anything, to improve the quality of anyone's RP. Besides, I c...

Re: Possibilities for chatting between players?

Rivean, I'm not sure you meant that seriously, but I'm not sure you didn't, so I'll explain. Plausible examples of conversations between human characters, about an encounter with orcs: "I'm glad you saw that one sneaking up behind me." "I didn't expect to find them so close to home." Hypothetical ex...

Re: Possibilities for chatting between players?

ETA: I posted this before I saw RiderOnTheStorm's post, just above. This post is a response to Hazgarn's last post before this. (end edit) No, what I'm talking about is all wrapped in IC conversation and emotes. For example they might be talking about a recent encounter with orcs, or about their cra...

Re: Possibilities for chatting between players?

The reason I was asking about this is because I thought if players had an easy way to socialize with each other, outside of the game, they might not do it so much in the game world. I'm having doubts about that now. but in any case it looks to me like SoI players do have an easy way to socialize wit...

Re: Looking for tips on exploring the SoI world.

Hazgarn, tehkory, Eltanim, thank you for that information. What kinds of possibilities are there with NPCs? For example, are there NPCs that can give directions, or answer questions about some people and places? I'm still traveling, and posting from a borrowed phone. I was picturing myself the next ...

Looking for tips on exploring the SoI world.

I've learned to look and scan, to find out more about what's around me, and where I can go. I've learned to use "tables" to find out where I can sit. I know where to find information about interacting with objects. Now I'd like to know more about exploring the possibilities of whatever space I'm in,...

Re: Possibilities for chatting between players?

This seems obvious to me now. I answered my own question, from the very first time I posted. If someone wants to socialize with other players, while he's in the game world, he can do it in the OOC Chatter forum. I can't imagine anything easier than that.

Re: Volunteering and community service interests

Stoneturtle, I love that story of making maps for India! I've been trying to think of more ways that any of us can help improve people's lives in the world's most ravaged communities, and one of my thoughts was to provide encouragement and support to people who are there, serving those communities.

Re: Questions and comments about forum behavior

Eltanim, just now I posted a report in my newbie thread. sod, Part of people's confusion with me might be because I've been very confused myself. For example, I keep forgetting why I started this thread. I started it to respond here to people posting off topic in other threads, about what I'm doing ...

Re: Anyone else here with zero RP experience?

This is a response to a question in another thread, about whether I had fun, my first time playing. I didn't get far enough into it to have fun. It was all work this first time. After I logged into the game, there was a lot of work to do, before I even got into the actual game world. Then I didn't k...

Good work, sod! You just made my day!

I need to ponder that for a while, before I respond to it.

ETA:
And I might know exactly what forum you're talking about, and for some reason it puts a big happy smile on my face.

Incidentally, I did finally play for a while.
