Re: Orkish Physiology

I may split some of these posts off into an orkish psychology thread in the near future. There are a lot of things in Tolkien's writings that were either never described definitively, or that were never finalized. A lot of things about orcs fall into one of those categories. Tolkien didn't like orcs...

Re: An In-Depth Look: Great Spiders

That's... not entirely true, but if it wasn't intended, then we probably could have cut out a fair amount of this conversation. Like Ungoliant, Shelob would devour as many of her own children as she could, and was an extremely powerful half-demon creature immune to age and natural mortality.

Re: Orkish Physiology

I apparently missed the most important part of that quote: Then he smeared the wound with some dark stuff out of a small wooden box... The orcs do seem to have something that promotes healing, prevents infection, and leads to some ugly scars. The drink? Yes, that was probably just a painkiller with ...

Re: An In-Depth Look: Great Spiders

The main point, however, was that referring to something as a half-demon is probably not a good thing to do, for a number of reasons. One, it draws to a number of minds the ideas of half-demons, which are a familiar thing to people who play any number of tabletop RPGs or computer games, neither of w...

Re: An In-Depth Look: Great Spiders

I've seen the term 'umaiar' used in reference to Tolkien's writing quite a bit; he himself didn't use it often at all, however, and I don't think he ever used it in his fiction writings themselves. Demons he does mention, yes. He calls balrogs demons, and, in poetic form, he does the same to werewol...

As for behind the scenes leadership I'll say yes at this point but will refrain from divulging anything further on the topic. Spoilers! :)
Striza is the utmost leadership that anyone is aware of, yes. ;)

Re: Orkish Physiology

Taurgalas is right in saying that a good deal of what is written about Half-orcs happens at the time of the Lord of the Rings. However, that's not to say that they aren't present in our period. There is, even at the time of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, never any definitive mention of half-orcs. A...

Since Incánus is yet another of Gandalf's names, use an image of the famous wizard, and let the confusion grow.

Re: An In-Depth Look: Great Spiders

A few notes: I seem to recall that Ungoliant didn't starve to death; rather, she fled into the desert, and was so hungry that she devoured herself. Tolkien's world doesn't really have a concept of demons. Yes, Ungoliant was (almost certainly) one of the maiar, but... there's a difference between spi...

Re: Black Speech.

True. Also, as Kayube mentioned, borrowing things from other sources is probably a bad idea for a number of reasons. Some authors are touchy about their things being used on muds, for instance, and it also opens the door for people to draw other things in from that same source that don't necessarily...

Re: Playing a slave.

If the song about goblin-town sung to Thorin and Co. is much of an indication, even if it were it no longer Alpha, I would suspect that slaves don't tend to be especially long-lived or actually get to do anything but eat, sleep, work, and bleed. I'm not certain that would be especially interesting, ...

Also, on a related note with weapons and variables, there are only like 3 people really cared about... We are not dismissive of those three people.
