Re: Resident suggest/question?

I know for a fact it can work. I got a working prototype of it last summer. I believe the concern was about giving players infinite storage space because of a well-known exploit.

Re: Sixth sense

Anyone remember the "Wizard" GTs from Atonement Mars/OMEGA? There's really nothing that you could imagine wanting a mob to be able to do, that the current scripting engine isn't capable of doing with a little bit of work . Ahaha ... hahaha ... Well, I mean, the scripts themselves took about four ho...

Re: How Do We Do This Thing?

I think that the players also need to try and get along with the staff as well. The staff can only do so much, until others that are in game decide that they need to be stand-offish and aloof from the rest of the non-elite cattle actually begin to harm things as a whole. I don't know what you're re...

Re: -Whaat- do you all want

I think it's human nature to complain about all the things you don't have, and be silently appreciative (or take it for granted) on the things you do have. After Staffing on many games, I've learned to take complaints with a grain of salt. I don't particularly mind feedback when it's given, so long ...

Re: Gear Creep and Perception

If I recall Atonement had its fair share of g-quality gear dolled out to players from rpts. More so than we've probably had here. As someone said the armor given out is better than leathers but worse than chainmail which will eventually make it not that special. Comparing Atonement to SOI is like c...

Re: Gear Creep and Perception

Kind of ironic considering you gave people literal plasma cannons on your own MUD. :) I was there for that, and helped prog those, being the head admin of Atonement. This seems like nothing more than flamebait. Trolls be trollin'. That was for an end-game event for literally two RL days, and it was...

Re: Upgrade Timer

I personally removed the upgrade command in ARPI, and I still don't agree with its use. But it seems that there's been little discussion about this Staff-side. This would be one of those, "nice to have, but not top priority" things, currently.

Re: Plots and Availability

Also you know.. locking the door to get into the RPT with the only key able to get in makes it a little exclusive. This may or may not have been true, but it is what it is. Perception is truth. I think the takeaway here is to make it clear there are different options for players to engage in. If su...

Re: Gear Creep and Perception

Fictitious. Not fictitious. Resolved now, perhaps, but not fictitious. Dude, your attitude is what kills staff. Grow up will you? It needs to be said, and I know it appears to be an unpopular reason, but it's Alpha/Beta, when we get to Laketown then we can cry, whine and moan. Actually, I'd say tha...

Re: No-Win RPI Design: No Rez

I've never had a rez policy take me more than like thirty minutes every few weeks. It's pretty obvious when the rez is caused by an admin or a code mistake (hi tehkory :)). I'm of the opinion that the rez policy is best where it's on a rare, case to case basis, and there has to be clear proof that i...

Re: Concerns and Constructive Criticism

Progress is sometimes turning around, rather than continuing as-is. If you think you've moved away from what caused players to bring up our concerns in the first place, then I'd point out how; if people think you've stayed the course, then hopefully they're simply wrong, and Staff as a whole have s...

Re: Usage of Think

I like all kinds of thinks, besides the sexx0ring variety, which I rarely see anyways. Thinks don't happen as much as you think they do, once you're an admin, so it's good to see 'em happening. I particularly like to see them in RPTs that I'm running, since it gives me more options on how I want to ...

Re: Cold/frostbite/insane

a) As mentioned, information about the changes in temperature is not always as in your face as it would be in real life. There's no way there's going to be a snow or thunderstorm while I'm in my house and I don't find out about it till I open the door and step outside. b) There seems to be no grada...

Re: Learning in the Arena

Just saying, it's pretty dang easy to get similar skillups from 1v1ing a sow and then you can still craft to your heart's content. Well ... yes. But then you're in live combat and you have the potential of getting moderates and severes. That's the trade off. You're trading off safety of only gettin...

Re: Learning in the Arena

It works best when you're in the 30s range (Amateur) for skilling up. By emoting, you should at least make an effort to emote every round. The prog is set up to sound off every three minutes, so it gives you ample time to RP with your fellow opponent about the outcome of the spar. And as tehkory sai...

Re: Sparring Weapon Changes

As an addendum, the training yard in Utterby now has a sparring arena object that facilitates RP/sparring, and also informs you when you skill up. It's a much safer alternative to sparring madly with live combat, and takes you up to Talented. Give it a shot. Many thanks to Songweaver for coming up w...

Sparring Weapon Changes

Sparring weapons do trash-level damage now, instead of a hack we used previously (hilariously we made them set to epic econ level so we could manually edit damage values). The main reason we switched them back to trash-level after our weapon rebalancing was because people were skirting around the co...

I'm moving the worst of frostbite damage to blizzard damage (yes, storms are on their way). So this should alleviate your concerns for now about the cold. But still, bundle warmly. Going outside without proper protection's not going to be pleasant!

The coldest times of the day will be twilight, followed by early morning and at night. The hottest times of day, in winter or summer, is near high noon and early afternoon. Wearing a thick fur cloak will help mitigate the cold if it gets to below 5 degrees F. You have a 25% chance of getting only h...

Re: Weather System

But this isn't how frostbite works at all. It's a completely incorrect representation of the physical phenomenon. You shouldn't get frostbite from walking across the courtyard at night, you get frostbite from prolonged exposure to freezing cold. As long as someone doesn't spend the night out in the...
