Re: Fletching

I'd recommend it making about six arrows per handful of feathers. Beside the realism aspect, this is also a game design issue. Birds must be shot by arrows. Because a bird converts to an object-corpse that is scalded and plucked (and not the generic corpse which is skinned), it means that lodged arr...

Re: Weaponcrafting and firewood

If it was built following ARPI's examples, then it looks like the use of the forge for "sharpen blade" is really "finish the partially-made blade." In that context, the forge makes sense. It probably makes sense to switch it to using the Workbench for the basic sharpening craft instead, so it just t...

Re: Craft Branching

It sounds like more things in those suites need to be made Opening crafts. You SHOULD be able to proceed through the whole basic process for a clan. For example - opening weaponcrafts should include the most basic hilt, the most basic knife blade, sharpening that blade, assembling that blade. The sa...

Are they going to implement the Firebreather objects for that?

Re: Weaponcrafting and firewood

Except failure also includes loss of metal. The fact you burn through wood -and- metal is already reason enough not to spam beyond your means. But the oppressive wood cost just makes crafting in general a pain. It looked to me like it produced scrap? So it downgrades the metal quality, but doesn't ...

Re: Weaponcrafting and firewood

I like the use of firewood - wood is the most plentiful thing in a lumber town; I'm surprised if it were a bottleneck. I disagree on requiring "a lit furnace" - on most of these crafts, the wood is the only "Cost" for doing it. There needs to be something consumed before the skill check which is los...

Re: Utterby Wish List

I know it's early, but...player houses! I see the range from small one room hut/cottages with a small hearth, that are easy to build to larger multiple room cabin/farmhouses with large fireplaces/woodstoves that take a lot more resources to build. I see people settling out on the eastern side, once...

Re: Crafting Questions

Yeah, the 6h haft craft appears to produce the same item as the 2h one. There could be additional hidden variables that affect weight/durability, but it should mean that they can be used interchangably. Same items, different variables. Variables impact more than weight / durability; they can impact...

Re: Crafting Questions

The craft to make a wooden haft for a weapon (make short-haft) has a timer of six hours. Is this intended? The other crafts to forge the weapon's head and put it together are just two hours each. I noticed that. The wooden-weaponcraft is not broken down into basic-, ordinary-, superior-. The Ordina...

Re: Skills - What do they actually use?

So is it possible to pick up a sword for example, start training/sparring/fighting with it and eventually pick up the skill? Exactly. Key change added to this codebase since old SOI... you can learn anything by trying long and hard enough. If you ARE going to find a teacher to teach you, though, ma...

Bundled up some old records here, too. These should all be in Word or PDF format, with the characters per line and lines per page already configured for copy/pasting into IC books.

Re: The "SoI is Down" thread

Some character died and had made so many board posts that the server crashed and burned upon trying to send out the death mail. True story. It happened twice that I know of: once when FatherAndy's first character died, seemingly, Oh, that's confirmed. :) It took a half-day of lagged before that mai...
