Re: Helpline

It was a newbie channel for questions, with only staff and guides having permanent access. Otherwise it was active for as long as people had their (new player) tag on, which is no longer a thing.

Re: Stellar RP and RPP

I don't think there's that much of a history of actual favoritism with regards to RPP, at least not any more than what's inevitable human nature. It's more that there has been inconsistency in how it has been handled at times, and also a lot of fretting over RPP back in old SOI because the races tha...

Re: Stellar RP and RPP

The way it was done on ARPI and PRPI was that there would be a monthly RPP review where every RPA would provide a list of names they wanted to award and then each player is briefly discussed. Sometimes clanleads were asked to provide a list of nominees as well. I personally didn't pay much attention...

Re: Focus and Ignore

And just in case there was any doubt, skills will never drop unless you're at your total skill cap, which is probably not something anyone is going to reach without already knowing that they're about to, and what to do with their skills post-cap. Even the lowest possible cap (assuming it's unchanged...

Re: Stats vs. RP (split from Nests and Crafts)

I'm violently against the notion that stats should determine a character's personality and behaviour. Under no circumstances must a stat ever be expected to determine, say, how brave your character is allowed to be. This is doubly true when that stat is mutually exclusive with the things that might ...

Re: Over abudance

There's a little bit of seasonal stuff going on -- bears aren't around in the winter. I'm assuming they're gone because they're hibernating, at least, and not because of a bug. The thing is that if it's made so that there's much less to hunt for a RL month (the IG winter), the game would get really ...

Re: Mercy

There's a few things that RPIs really can't mess with, like permadeath and multiplaying. These are set in stone and define the genre. This is a good chance to discuss the rez policy and the nature of PvP, however, so this whole mercy ordeal isn't all bad if it indirectly leads to some positive chang...

Re: Mercy

If nobody likes the command, don't use it during our testing phase. The issue with this is that it's not a feature that you can just opt out of entirely and not have it affect you at all. I hated the upgrade command for a long time and chose not to use it throughout all of Atonement because I felt ...

Re: Mercy

Anyway, genuine twink PKing - the kind where the game is better off if the act is reversed - is so rare that changing the entire death system isn't really warranted. In all the time I played Atonement, I can only think of one case (a certain slaughtering of half the Vultures) and I can't recall any ...

Mercy

See: http://www.middle-earth.us/forums/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=1534 While any final judgment must be withheld until it has been tested, and acknowledging that alpha has room to test unorthodox things, my initial reaction is that this is utterly against the principles that make a game an RPI. Soft perma...

Re: Weather System

But this isn't how frostbite works at all. It's a completely incorrect representation of the physical phenomenon. You shouldn't get frostbite from walking across the courtyard at night, you get frostbite from prolonged exposure to freezing cold. As long as someone doesn't spend the night out in the ...

Re: Weather System

It's always iffy to have environmental health damage. I think it would be better if it affected movement speeds, regeneration rates, skill checks etc. Maybe the cold (and a lack of sufficient clothing) should cause effects similar to being starved/injured as it pertains to skill checks and willpower.

Re: Dual-wield vs shield-use

It feels like one's dual-wield skill goes up really slowly when fighting with a shield. I suspect it only checks for skillgains when you get hit while holding a shield, which doesn't generally happen that many times during a fight, whereas it checks with each attack when wielding two weapons. Over t...

Re: The Badguy Sphere, Mixing Races?

Yeah, wargs with swords would be so hilariously visible and unapologetically twinky that I don't think anyone would even try. If it's a 1RPP race (it would really have to be) then I doubt anyone is that foolish.

Re: The Badguy Sphere, Mixing Races?

I remember fiddling with it at one point back on Atonement to see if there was basis for mutants who fought with tentacles and claws and such, and I remember it not working out because the combat code was a bit fucked when you didn't use weapon and style skills. If it works here and has been tested,...

Re: The Badguy Sphere, Mixing Races?

Well, the code doesn't currently support it in any way, that's what I meant. Someone would have to implement all manner of warg combat systems and random shit like eating corpses without having to butcher them with a knife and so on. If someone wants to do that, I won't stand in the way of it. It's ...

Re: The Badguy Sphere, Mixing Races?

While I don't see PC wargs working out at the moment, or any other non-humanoid race for that matter, I think it would be really cool to see warg mounts.
