Re: So many Wargs.

Even more advanced AAA title games from major publishers have issues out thinking players who out think NPCs. If you truly believe that there is a game breaking issue that allows people to unfairly deal with threats that are placed in the game world. Sending a support ticket in or finding some way ...

Re: So many Wargs.

What risk would you expect? Maybe the river is too deep and too swift for them to swim to chase the shooters. Why would you expect them to come across the river by walking either? If they're intelligent, they know they are outpowered. Men have walls, and fire and armor. If the river is too far and/...

Re: So many Wargs.

These are men standing on the shore of the river, six+ rooms from their home(quite a significant distance), shooting at twelve+strong wargpacks with more than a handful of arrows, while the bridge to get over the river is only 1-2 rooms away. And yeah, shocker: the wargs would probably avoid the ri...

Re: So many Wargs.

So, it sounds like you have a very specific gripe about a person or specific behavior. There are plenty of places near the city, far from the bridge, from which you can snipe across the river.

However, that's cool. Everyone needs a cause to champion.

Re: So many Wargs.

What's wrong with sniping across the river? Are we an MMO now so we reset mobs if they can't reach you to prevent people from using tactics in combat? What's wrong with sniping across the river is that these are intelligent creatures, sentient and capable of language. Replace 'warg' with human/gobl...

Re: How do you imagine orcs in SoI?

Does anybody happen to have a few Tolkien quotations with direct orc speech handy? I'm not saying anybody has to imitate them, but I'd be interested to read some. I don't have the book handy, but here's one.. "My dear tender little fools," hissed Grishnakh, "everything you have, and everything you ...

Re: How do you imagine orcs in SoI?

Personally, I think it's based solely on how the orc was raised, how they experienced life prior to Vadok, and how stupid or not stupid they are. Like humans, not all orcs are going to be smart, not all orcs are going to be able to articulate certain words because our version of common is a bastard...

Re: Random SOI Thoughts

Having to run away from a conversation with a character you rarely get to RP with because in what passes for "Real Life" there is a manic terrier, spattered in cupcake batter, running up and down the hallway... That sounds like the kind of situation that would clean up after itself given time.

Re: How do you imagine orcs in SoI?

Not that I'm invalidating your point that people continually play certain types of characters over a long period of time, I'm still gonna say that's a cop-out to avoid the effort of stepping outside everyone's comfort zone. Usually when people do that, I feel taunted, like "yeah, well it's not like...

Re: How do you imagine orcs in SoI?

Ever consider that... people -like- talking like that? And that that's why they do it? Not because they think they -have- to? There's nobody stopping you what-so-ever of having an easily understood, and full thought statement making orc, except yourself and what you think others will say about it. ...

Re: How do you imagine orcs in SoI?

I'm not even going to argue it because my experience over the last several years differs from the what's being said. Maybe because we're talking different points. Sure, IC'ly people will accept the occasional freak orc that's not the cookie-cutter type, but like I said, the dissent is always OOC. In...

Re: How do you imagine orcs in SoI?

OOCly ridicu--what? I would love to see various interpretations of the Tolkien orc, from their mode of speech to their overall appearance, as the rules to their creation seems to be lax enough to allow for even a sedate/not monstrous or overly-fantasy interpretation of their appearance. I understan...

Re: How do you imagine orcs in SoI?

We aren't allowed to play Tolkien orcs. If our orc isn't blue, purple, black or some combination and speak in a barely understandable jumble, we get OOC'ly ridiculed.

Re: Craft Branching

I'm resurrecting this because I am looking for a clarification. Does the branching timer apply to all crafts, or just the one you recently branched in? For example, can I branch something in weaponcrafting, then go work on armor and branch again or do I have to wait for the timer to branch any other...

Re: Orcish Song/Dance and Celebration Discussion

I understand that the old days can be alluring, but I'd hesitate to have orcs even have funerals. Caring that someone died and wanting to send their spirit on is assuming a nobility of spirit and personality. I don't think they'd care that one of their own had fallen. Maybe if a strong leader died,...

Re: Orcish Song/Dance and Celebration Discussion

Only examples I can give are from past experiences... But early early Gothakra used to have funerals for fallen uruks who died in combat. The bodies would be ritually dismembered to 'make it easy' for that uruk 'spirit' to 'return to the mountain' ... Which was where the Gothakra tribes came from a...

Re: Orcish Song/Dance and Celebration Discussion

If there's to be dancing and celebrating I think it's very important to take into consideration the reason the the revel. Many dancing, drinking, and partying situations that we are used to, being humans ourselves, are to celebrate something. Harvest festivals, Christmas parties, New Year's Eve, bir...
