Re: Sparring, whether the target or 'fring fighter'

It's my off day, so I have nothing better to do. I said. Many other people don't enjoy starting as completely incompetent and unable to do anything...Now, everyone sucks. You claimed to understand where I was coming from and then launched into how I was demanding more (when I was asking it to be re...

Re: Starting skill levels & combat skillgains

Thirdly, boohoo..you can't start off a badass. I'm never going to sympathize on this one. I'm tired of everyone in today's society thinking they "deserve" to have what they want handed to them. If you don't want to play a game where you start off weak and build up to being stronger, then don't play...

Re: Starting skill levels & combat skillgains

I didn't see any admin state that and having only made my character two weeks ago, I wasn't aware that changes had been made since then. My apologies if I'm wrong, but I remain unconvinced and unlike some people don't have time to read through pages and pages of complaints and people saying the sam...

Re: Starting skill levels & combat skillgains

Back on topic: If anything though, I do find that the skill level pool is a bit low, and this is already something in discussion on Staff. I will note, that skills are coming in just about 6-7 points lower than before on average. It's just enough to dump you from one category to another, so you all...

Re: Starting skill levels & combat skillgains

Lord, Deviant. Read the thread you silly. Admins are literally stating PCs start at amateur with four skills. Stop posting, start reading. What you started with isn't relevant. It's the four skill amateurs that are the topic here. I didn't see any admin state that and having only made my character ...

Re: Starting skill levels & combat skillgains

I agree Nimrod. It's like getting your friends together to play D&D and having them all insist on getting max stats despite their rolls and starting at lvl 20. Eh. There are ways to play a non-young-adult character under the current system -- recovering from an injury, career change from a non-code...

Re: Crafting Requests

I have a thought. It relates directly to weaponcrafting because that's what I'm familiar with, but it could go to other crafts as well if there are similar systems in place. Right now, even a master smith could get a few crappy rolls and make a shoddy blade and that seems a bit off. I was thinking t...

Re: Starting skill levels & combat skillgains

Please keep in mind that we're going to be discussing the POSSIBILITY of using the number of rpp a player has to be a factor in skill levels in chargen. We're in Alpha, things are slowly morphing to be more balanced as time marches on. This is a slow process to be sure; each change needs time to se...

Re: Sparring, whether the target or 'fring fighter'

That removes some of the character development that many people enjoy. There's nothing wrong with beginning weak as long as there are reasonable ways in which to grow stronger. Many other people don't enjoy starting as completely incompetent and unable to do anything related to our character concep...

Re: Sparring, whether the target or 'fring fighter'

Whether or not wargs ought to be lethal (and to what extent) is a matter of game design by way of IC reality. Whether or not your starting area aggro mobs ought to be lethal (and to what extent) is a matter of game design by way of OOC game balance. One cannot say, 'But wargs are supposed to destro...

Re: Orcish wish list

I wish there was an option during the COMMENCE sequence that made sure every orc entering the game was given (forced to learn) one rudimentary craft skill at the very lowest level of their choice so they could be baseline useful towards the war effort when not press ganged into patrol. Skills would...

Re: Sparring, whether the target or 'fring fighter'

I could be wrong about all of this, but here goes my opinion: everyone is complaining that they cant fight a single warg by themself because their skills are too low. I thought this was an RPI based on the middle-earth world. I had not realized that the fellowship that was made up of an elf, a dwar...

Yes - done the steps. Also, first time. Though I was clothed when I entered for the first time. Disaster averted - I am in safe havens now. Well if all your gear vanished it was probably some sort of buggyness and you should ask the admins about it. I think I remember some people having nudity issu...

It is on topic. We're discussing the reasonable amount of sparring, and I found it interesting that you thought jocks were less intelligent than orcs. No need to get huffy.

Re: Sparring, whether the target or 'fring fighter'

To me, it makes sense for orcs to fight to 3 or even 2 stars with wooden weapons at times. Why? Because they're not 'sparring' in a sense a human would. When an orc picks up these wooden weapons, they are often out there to prove that they are stronger than their opponent. This isn't so much a frie...

Re: Sparring, whether the target or 'fring fighter'

I remember a thread on old SoI about damage levels, and the general consensus seemed to be that being at 3 stars with dozens of smalls was not equivalent to being at 3 stars with a mortal/horrific. This seems especially true with the current engine, where you can heal from 3 stars to full in less t...

I never spar down that far unless it's a complete accident that knocks be down lower than intended, but seriously. You guys overlook so many unrealistic things and chalk it up to "realism vs playability" and then find little pet peeves of your own that you decide are much more important than someone...

When you assemble ordinary spear and use a heavy spearhead, it doesn't seem to make a heavy spear. Any insight on this?

Swimming in a river while people are shooting arrows at you is a great way to get killed FAST. "He rose out of the water, but at that moment, he was spotted by orcs who shot him with arrows through the throat and heart." Sounds like the rising up was the problem, not the swimming.
