Upgrade Timer
Currently the cooldown to use upgrade is 90 days. Due to short lifespans of most current characters, and the fact that there's still some minor kinks in how stats are generated, I'd like to see both staff and player's opinions on possibly lowering the timer.

Nah, we already have an amazing stat customization option in chargen.
My two cents.
My two cents.

Things that made me smile:

Re: Upgrade Timer
Wow.. you have the option to upgrade stats every ninety days?
You youngsters have it so nice... *laugh*
I remember entire threads that eventually ended up with 'The stats rolled at char-gen are the peak of your character's potential, you can roleplay working up to that peak.'
Or later 'You can spend roleplay points to modify your character's stats.'

Re: Upgrade Timer
Is there a limit to this?
Re: Upgrade Timer
Stats actually need upgraded?
Re: Upgrade Timer
Upgrade is actually a terrible name for it because it looks like you are just moving one stat point around. You add to one thing and subtract from something else.Canawa wrote:Stats actually need upgraded?
Though, I agree 90 days is a bit too long. 30 days/1 month seems a bit more reasonable.

Re: Upgrade Timer
My apologies, Letters, I didn't see your post despite trying to use search beforehand. I wouldn't mind the topics being merged.
Anyways, I'm in agreement with Letters other post. As it stands right now, if one of your stats is several points off, it can currently take the better part of a year to get it where you want. In regards to the character generation system, I like it a lot, but it's not perfect nor fool proof. Even with prioritization, you can get some unexpected results. I'm on my fifth character, and think I have a good sense of how it works, and even with that knowledge, I had a stat that peaked out despite it being of third priority, while my two top priority stats were great. I don't think it's worth staff intervention, and am willing to just change it over time naturally, but my current goals would take a year to complete.

Re: Upgrade Timer
I agree, one month would be nice. It's not like any huge benefits are happening. You get one point to shift. Sometimes people's concepts develop, and it would be nice to be able to slowly adapt to those over time.
I started out with really average stats regardless of what I chose in chargen - it was pretty off, but I decided that I should just go with it, and that I could modify them as I got to know my character better over time.
One month per one point of shiftage doesn't seem gamebreaking, especially when everything else is either static or one-way progressive (skills.)

Re: Upgrade Timer
Muahaha yes, one month cool down.
Re: Upgrade Timer
My biggest point is that this is Alpha, and things still need a little tweaking. I'd rather give more power to the players to tweak their own characters, rather than bogging down the staff with what I consider to be small problems. The staff are great, and even if they are willing to help, some people like me don't wish to be a burden.

Re: Upgrade Timer
I'd also be in favour of the 1 month cooldown. It's not like upgrade really improves your character, it just shifts around what he's good at. Also, the new stat system has ended up being wonky for more than a few players, with their most important stats ending up lower than their unimportant ones
A really bad sword with a short blade lies here.
look sword
This sword hardly even a sword. It's kind of really just a piece of metal bent like a sword. Its blade is rather short. Kind of pathetic, really.

Re: Upgrade Timer
No upgrades at all!
Re: Upgrade Timer
I remember when you and Tiamat removed upgrade, while arguing that it added an increase in stats to longer-lived characters.Songweaver wrote:No upgrades at all!
(No, I won't let you live that down. And yes, it is horrifically named, and you can't be blamed for that.)
That said, stat shifting is one of those things I love to see IG. It's got a bunch of benefits. One of those beings that it's a mechanical means for avoiding favoritism from Staff. Rather than some Staff giving players statshifts, and some Staff not, instead it's this simple: players do it. And it's not overpowered.

Re: Upgrade Timer
It used to be just a way to spend RPP for stat boosts. The trading system someone implemented at some point during Atonement is definitely better. And I still don't like it!
(But I do use it.)

I've forwarded this to Nim for consideration.

Re: Upgrade Timer
I know my characters always seem to have that one stat that I didn't place in any spot of importance and yet seems to always be WAY up there as far as point allocation is confirmed. I'd definitely love to drag 10 points out of it and put them in other stats

Re: Upgrade Timer
Bump? Also can we get presence in the visible stats?
Re: Upgrade Timer
I'd still love word on this. In the meantime, I'm going to blame the Hillmen for the delay.

But it's only a dream.
