Increased player count, what brought you back?

Postby Gobbo » Wed Feb 18, 2015 8:46 am

I've logged on the last two evenings and seen over 20 players online again. This has encouraged me to make a return to the game because things seem optimistic. However I haven't really heard of any new happenings on the development side.

So I'm wondering what brought you back to the game if you were away?

Ha! Same reason I came back, someone bugged me into doing it. Of course I'm still working full time and going to school full time so as much as I love this game it still might not work out... sad face.

Wargs, and hopes for documentation on how to create applications for unique roles and clans.

I think that the more unique and versatile roles are allowed into SOI, the more people will come back to play the game. A lot of us have played so many roles over the years that playing Guard/Lodge/Orc Grunt just isn't as enticing or exciting as it once was.

Every so often I decide I just want to play a huge 'ole down-on-their-luck perpetual loser, or my take on the fresh-faced, eager, utterly ungrizzled newbie. But it's pretty rare. It's more common that I do want to do something that lasts, and is just more abnormal/unique. I want a dorf.

I too want a dwarf... and I want him to have bite damage.

ankle-biters. Give him high agility so he can strike leg without any delay
A really bad sword with a short blade lies here.
look sword
This sword hardly even a sword. It's kind of really just a piece of metal bent like a sword. Its blade is rather short. Kind of pathetic, really.

Put in wrestling code if dwarves are gonna be a regular thing.

As for me, I only left because stuff went south with the gf and I needed a few months to get stoned/decompress. I love this game even when numbers/plots are few, and try my best to keep the fire burning when things are slow.

I'm not entirely back just yet, but I'm looking forward to when I move into my new place next week and have my own computer, decent internet, and a room to hole up in and MUD! :D

What brought me back.. fond memories, and dissatisfaction with the alternatives.
But I am not entirely back yet either, at least IC.
I want to play more, but RL gives me odd hours to work with.
Every point ever made was an argument.

I'm there with you. I'd put much more consideration into playing if I wasn't always working through peak times :/

I have noticed a decent pre-work crowd, if you get up early enough some mornings.

See we just need to create a niche of people who play at odd times haha. I work third shift for example, and so on days when I don't also have class I'll be playing from 7AM CST until whenever I feel like sleeping. Of course it means that in the evenings I'm always in bed when everyone else is logging on.

I'm not back, but I was prompted by a message left elsewhere to at least check out the forum.

My favourite part of RPIs has almost always been adventuring and the stories it spawns (or the jokes - ominous curtains, bricks cunningly disguised as blocks of gold etc). I'm not so keen on it at all when inter-sphere armed conflict is also a strong - if not central - focus. In fact, I utterly hate it when violence between player characters becomes an issue. There's nothing else which can put me off a game quite so quickly, and while I can live with it in small doses, a constant focus is enough to make me stop playing.

Perhaps I would just need to find a non-combatant niche which I enjoy, but that has always seemed strangely difficult on games using this particular branch of the RPI engine compared to other RPIs (all three others that currently exist, at least).

I am thinking about creating my first character tonight.

What's the Orkish sphere like in terms of population and activity?

I have 0rpps on this account. Would it be best I role a goblin?

They are doing really well. A nice simply goblin would be perfect there.
