Is anyone else getting directed to a weird attempt at telnetting into the game via browser when they go to the SOI homepage this morning?

yep. Everytime I enter through the middle-earth.us rather than the laketownrpi URL
A really bad sword with a short blade lies here.
look sword
This sword hardly even a sword. It's kind of really just a piece of metal bent like a sword. Its blade is rather short. Kind of pathetic, really.

Hmmm.... I'm getting this as well. If you make sure to put the www in front of your address, it works fine.

www.middle-earth.us

Port 80 (which http traffic shows up on) should be routing to the web page, while port 4500 runs to the mud. We did do another migration just the other day (unnoticed by all thanks to Grommit's new stealth mode), so it's possible he's routing port 80 to the game rather than using the old redirect I had set up.

It's slightly annoying for the moment, yes, but we'll get it patched in no time.

Thanks for the head's up.

Maybe it's another hacking attempt. You should call the NSA or something.

Kithrater does not post very often, so this must be legit.

Hopefully it's something less boring than trying to inject MySQL commands.

It's my workaround for firewalls. You can direct your client to port 80 instead of 4500 in case 4500 is blocked. Apparently your browsers don't default to prefixing www like my chrome does, since I had to put effort into going to the non-www version of the URL (manually typing http://middle...etc).

You'd probably be better off using 443, which is never blocked and won't result in the weirdness (since there's no https:// version of the website).
