Am I uh...reading that wrong or is there literally no reason to wear leather? Hell it looks like wearing leather does nothing but /increase/ the damage you take from a couple things, and reduces absolutely nothing.

I think you're reading it wrong, good sir!

Thanks for the post, staff. It is a useful guide for what to expect. :geek:

Technically, if this makes sense, this is how you can tell the damage modification, to the best of my knowledge.

Effective AC = (Weapon Type bonus vs Armor Type - Quality AC Value) X -1

Damage = (Damage Roll - Effective AC) x (Crit/Ambush Bonuses) x (Body Part Modifier)

Example: A poor quality (Let's assume AC 2 base) padded armor takes a non-critical hit to the neck from a bludgeon on a roll of 1d8 (roll 6).

Effective AC = (-1(bludgeon bonus vs padded armor) - 2AC) X -1 = 3

Damage = 6(roll) - 3(effective AC) x 1(no crit) x 3(neck) = 9 damage.

The only way that wearing armor would actually make you take more damage is if it as a base AC value of 0.

That said, two questions to the admins:

1) Does trash quality armor have an AC value of 0? That's important to know.

2) Is newbie quality gear "trash" or "poor" quality under the new table?

Addendum: The old table, designed for Atonement, was not balanced for this game and its weapon/armor types. The new table looks great, assuming all armor has a base AC value of at least 1.

Newbie gear is trash.

Nothing has an AC value of 0.

Thanks! One more question:

Should we expect this change to make us take more, or less damage from wildlife (assuming we're all still in our newb padded gear)?

If I remember correctly, the old armor table for padded armor was either +0 or +1 for all wildlife damage, so newbie armor should take the same amount of damage (if it was +0) or less (if it was +1).

so, is there a reason why axes have an overall total of -9 while even a whip only has -8? Axes seem underpowered in general, being equal or worse vs. armour in all categories compared to spears, daggers and swords.
A really bad sword with a short blade lies here.
look sword
This sword hardly even a sword. It's kind of really just a piece of metal bent like a sword. Its blade is rather short. Kind of pathetic, really.

Are there plans to actually introduce heavier armors in alpha?

Well, I'll take whatever armor I can get my grubby hands on, trash or not.

Reason why I'm not heading outside is because I'm practically naked. Even my character has the brains to know that...

Least if I have a suit of trashy leathers I'd have the illusion I'm in heavy armour and can take on anything in a fight.

Have a grave spot ready for me.
