The response I was given was that weapon and armor crafting should be very long and tedious.
I'll bring it up again.

Matt wrote:Below is the craft to make maille gloves. I think the use of lengths need to be lowered quite a bit. Currently to make a set of gloves it takes half of what a hauberk is. I suggest it be lowered to 2 lengths of mail, one per glove. A little more then what a helmet takes and a little less then a full ingot.
Currently it'd be 2 full ingots of metal to make some.

roast plain-meat
You check the flames in a [fire] to make certain they are not too hot nor too low for a twisted, bog-iron roasting spit.
You take the pointed end of a twisted, bog-iron roasting spit and pierce [some meat] with it to put the meat over the flames.
You give the meat some time to cook over the flames, keeping an eye on it as the juices drip into the fire, sparking and crackling.
You reach out to turn the meat by turning the wooden rod upon a twisted, bog-iron roasting spit
You press a finger against the meat to check it and pull it off of a twisted, bog-iron roasting spit, setting out a roasted chunk of [meat].
- Code: Select all
This solid pocked bog iron rod is three feet in length, with a number of twists giving it a corkscrew-like appearance. Small rounded rings on both extremes allow it to be lofted on a hearth's andirons or a more haphazard campfire setup.
The fussy detail being that, from the above description, this isn't that kind of spit - there is no wooden rod. The bog iron rod IS the horizontal, turnable part. I believe "a crude roasting spit" is made of wood, but I don't have its description handy - the non-variable craft text should probably be materials-neutral.
