Wildlife vs Armor Suggestion

Postby Songweaver » Sun Jun 15, 2014 9:34 am

I believe that the wilderness mobs are not balanced properly. I take a minor through my newbie armor on every hit (even vs bunny rabbits), minimum, which suggests to me that there is zero chance for me to take a "glancing" hit that deals no damage. This is certainly not true in the opposite direction, as even "weak" aggressive mobs (like singular wolves or boars) are capable of taking zero damage from being hit by my weapon, it seems.

My rule of thumb with mob damage balance has always been this:

"Weak" Aggressive Mobs vs "Poor" Quality Armor: The two lowest "damage rolls" for the mob should deal no damage when compared to armor. I call it the "-1 rule"; a mob's lowest damage roll minus the base armor's AC value should equal -1.

You can extrapolate this rule to average aggressive mobs vs average armor, and mean aggressive mobs vs high quality armor as well. I've always found this to be the most balanced way of designing mob damage and armor values.

Yeah, I've actually taken more damage from trying to kill a rabbit than I have from some wolves.

ETA : To clarify, that's on account of getting lucky and blocking most of a wolf's hits while killing it and then getting unlucky and having a rabbit bite me like 5 times. Still seems crazy though, luck or not.

Um, Rabbits may have had Holy Grail-esque combat skills.

Fixed moving forward.
