Unfortunately I have no logs/files/etc. of old SoI. But I'd like all Erinur's many hours of work making books not to fade away, as well as the many memories of PCs that appeared in them.

If anyone has logs of having read some of Erinur's books, I will do the clean up work on them. PM me!

I have:
  • Spire, Blight, and Plague: Notes on the Troubles in North Ithilien
  • a "transcription [...] of a tome retrieved from the tomb of Master Sage Calimiar and Master Istavarna Beryon"
  • The Wight Sage
  • The Serpent and the Hart
  • Maxims of War (by Captain Rinion Nimrulai, copied by Erinur)

Also some of Dambeth's:
  • Tirnidhren and the Nazgul's Eye
  • Birth and Pregnancy: The Basics of Midwifery and Birth Healing
  • The Inner Body: A Basic Guide to Anatomy
  • The Inner Body, Vol. II: Eyes, Ears, and the Brain
  • Anatomy of Unusual or Interesting Creatures

I may have more if I rummage more diligently, or if anyone has specific keywords I might ask my pc to search on. I have kind of a lot of books, really; I just don't want to duplicate other players' work.

Also, who's coordinating with Octavius on leave now?

This is wonderful! I'll PM you my email address if you would be so kind to send them to me for formatting.

There was a series of five or six books on the last great war between Gondor and Mordor called "As Far as the Eye Can See". Maybe you can search on that. I can't think of any specific words that might have been in them, unfortunately. Except Erinur Aranin... that is how his surname was spelled? I can't believe I can't remember that clearly.

I don't know who will be handling the project, to be honest. I'd told Octavius I'd help him however I could.

Yep, Aranin. That's what gets me Erinur's and Dambeth's books together. ;)

ETA other Aranin family books in my log files:
  • A History of The Battalion of Lord Eradan
  • Lord Eradan's Battalion - The Honored Dead
  • Words of War 2479
  • Guide to Numenian-Tengwar (by Kyan McThane, copied by Erinur)
  • An Aidsman's Handbook, Volume One: The Basics of Healing
  • An Aidsman's Handbook, Volume Two: Frostbite, Burns and Breathing
  • The Curse and the Honor

Assuming I can hijack this as a general project thread, since Stoneturtle's given it such a nice general title ...

Other books I believe Octavius already has clean copies of:
  • HEROES: A Collection of Gondorian Poetry Written, Translated, or Edited By Aesk Cottonwood
  • A Guide to Scouting and Soldiering, by Eoran Olamer
  • A Westron Wordbook, by Milton Etherwere
  • An Atliduk Wordbook [adapted from the above]
  • THE KINGS OF GONDOR, Volume III: The Ship Kings, by Wynam Berlor
  • The Valar
  • The Great Siege of Osgiliath
  • The Dooms of Angost
  • Dior's Will
  • The Denizens of Mordor, 2477
  • GUIDE TO HERBS AND THEIR MEDICINAL PURPOSES, by Harland
    [re-paginated & alphabetized edition]

As Oct is on leave, we are starting at 0. I'd like to get as many as possible on the Wiki.

God I miss some of those books...

Find us a new coordinator, and we'll forward things along.

p.s. We might even throw in Qualen's Illustrated Guide to Living Miserably. :P

Hawkwind wrote:Does HEROES contain Gone to Defend the garrison?

Yes:

GONE TO DEFEND THE GARRISON

The orders rang out low and high
And froze the hearts of passersby
And soldiers in full martial ran
Marched to a man in unison
Gone to defend the garrison

And here upon our battlements
The Watch was to their sentry sent
All eyes followed Gondor's sons
Who eastward marched in unison
Gone to defend the garrison

And as they peered out towards the East
The land was shrouded in a mist
And dark as night, though day half done
It boded ill for Gondor's sons
Gone to defend the garrison

The dark stretched on like several nights
And then the Watch beheld a light
A distant fiery beacon from
Gondor's sons besieged as one
Gone to defend the garrison

The scouts beheld Ithilien
O'er run with orcs and Haradrim
Wargs and goblin warrior scum
Encamped about fair Gondor's sons
Gone to defend the garrison

Reinforcements marched through town
More troops to break the siegeworks down
A hundred men, if there was one
But never reached their brothers' sons
Gone to defend the garrison

And some unsoldiered rushed headlong
To grapple with the deadly throng
And sure would more have needless gone
Had they not thought our soldiers won
Gone to defend the garrison

But there was work Osgiliath
Enough at home, to stand the wrath
Of countless foes, or else they come
And crush the fortress home of some
Gone to defend the garrison

The skies with orcish arrows rained
Fell flying beasts the ramparts gained
And blood from wounded friends did run
Who stood in cause beside the ones
Gone to defend the garrison

Then darker still the evil grew
A shadow wizard crowlike flew
Upon the walls with pow'r unknown
The Watch he laid a spell upon
Gone to defend the garrison

And by the time their limbs had thawed
Another rumor spread abroad
A dying soldier came to warn
How Trolls beat down their force like drums
Gone to defend the garrison

No sooner said than on the gate
Came crushing blows of cruel hate
Trolls wielding trees as clubs each one
To crush to death like those they'd done
Gone to defend the garrison

They breached the gate but not the port
Felled by giants of humble sort
Militia stood like living stones
This second wall our vict'ry won
Gone to defend the garrison

And high we raise our glass in pride
To those who fought and those who died
Preserving walls that we call home
Let us continue what has begun
Gone to defend the garrison

The heroes' loved ones sorrow will
The unasked questions echo still
Where is your husband? Where your son?
Of them don't say what's become...just
Gone to defend the garrison.

This poem is dedicated to Kya whose eyes witnessed these deeds and whose body, now buried, bore the marks of honor from this battle.

Thank you! I recall a scene with Aesk in which he judged my own writings. He called them passable, but needed more work.

Bundled up some old records here, too. These should all be in Word or PDF format, with the characters per line and lines per page already configured for copy/pasting into IC books.

Didn't even see this until now, and at this point it's moot since I already posted it, but sure, absolutely.

I think if every book mentioned in this thread made it to the Guest Lounge, I might never log in to actually RP again.

What we really need is a giant off-grid library where every former SoI sage/scribe/author PC is simultaneously available for play, regardless of when they ICly lived.

Wouldn't that be fun?

I mean.... who's saying that, several hundred years later... a selection of some items might make it into the game?

I immediately imagined a Book of the Month club where the scribe PCs randomly select a tome to read and discuss, only to discover that the majority of in-game tomes were diaries of three or fewer written pages.
