Ordinary-weaponcrafting is now in. I still need to put in shield crafts for both the poor-level and ordinary-level. I'm going to keep the old weaponcrafting in for a week. That means that on 7/14, I will yank out all the old weaponcrafting.

This is your chance to PM me with what ordinary-weaponcrafting crafts you have, to exchange for equivalencies in the new tree. Please just tell me what crafts you think you should get based on the following crafts (red means it's already opening):

Subcraft: longsword-component Command: forge
Subcraft: greatsword-component Command: forge
Subcraft: greataxe-component Command: forge
Subcraft: battleaxe-component Command: forge
Subcraft: short-spear-component Command: forge
Subcraft: heavy-spear-component Command: forge
Subcraft: mace-component Command: forge
Subcraft: warhammer-component Command: forge
Subcraft: dagger-component Command: forge
Subcraft: longknife-component Command: forge

Tell me the old craft you used to have, and what you want to exchange for in equivalencies. For example:

forge ordinary-axe -> forge battleaxe-component
forge ordinary-dagger -> forge dagger-component

Also, after suggestions from people, I have decided that $wquality will impact Deflect. At its best, it will give a +3 bonus. At its worst, -3 penalty. So players can decide to try to get that exceptional weapon (given their skill is high enough), for more moneys.

I would also like to explain how $wquality is determined. Currently for pquality, you are rolling a 1d(your skill) five times. For oquality, you are rolling three times. The code then takes your best skill roll out of these and matches that against the skill requirements per quality tier.

Pquality is:
exceptional - 40
well-constructed - 35
solid - 30
uneven - 25
shoddy - < 25

Oquality:
exceptional - 50
well-constructed - 45
solid - 40
uneven - 35
shoddy - <35

RNG will be a factor moreso for oquality, so keep this in mind before you devote a lot of manhours to hoping for an exceptional roll, if you're only a Familiar-level weaponcrafter. Exceptional quality means that you're either very lucky or you're well above the skill requirement needed for that tier.

Also for the love of God, please stop using the old ordinary-weaponcrafting if you don't want bugs.

A special notice and explanation for "hone tempered-edge":

This craft, if successful, will turn your sharp weapon into a honed weapon blade, which gives a +1 damage bonus to your weapon. However, it is not at all necessary to complete an ordinary-weapon. It's a bonus craft, if you will, if you want to take the extra effort to hone your weapon-blade to the next level.

FAQ

What about hilts? Will we ever get new hilts for different levels of quality?


Maybe. But this is ALPHA. And simplicity > complexity until we're sure features are working properly.

...and what is the difference between Sharpen Dull-Blade, and Sharpen Tempered-Weapon?


Dull-blade is a beginner check. It's to represent the very basics in sharpening a weapon. Sharpen tempered-weapon is to represent the difficulty of sharpening a higher quality, properly tempered blade.

If you don't care for the fluff of why this is why it is, simply: I wanted to make it more difficult for weaponcrafters to make ordinary weapons.

It looks to me there are short-spears and long-spears, is there a plan for medium-spears? That be used in one hand and both? Similar to the starting polearm weapon?

Sure, I can see this happening. Once I get motivated again. I did all of ordinary-weaponcrafting in a day, so I'm on a crafting cooldown timer. 8)

Can we please get the keywords fixed when the weapon is sheathed?

I don't like that my sheath is bearing a 'sharp' rather then a 'blade'.

I also would like it if hilts (even if it's only one hilt) would show up in the shortdesc when the weapon is drawn.

P and O are the difference between 'tiers' of equipment. Like a level system, sort of, but for weapons. Most weapons you'll find ingame are either Trash-Qual, or Poor-qual. Ordinary is a little more rarer. (At this point anyway)

Ahh, got it. So the pquality is poor and o is ordinary. So tquality would be trash? Where does basic fall in?

My question was what's the difference between quality when using dull-blade on a tempered edge?

That's a mistake. Removing those objects from the dull-blade list.
