Yeah. I understand. I raised those same points to the rest of staff just last night, with the very same math (it's actually 8.55 hours, not merely 8!)

The response I was given was that weapon and armor crafting should be very long and tedious.

I'll bring it up again.

Yea, ICly. Not in my real life. Unless I can start charging RL money. Seriously. Who gave this response? If this is going to be how it is I may as well retire my PC or stop playing because I'm not going to log in to set up triggers and scripts and walk away.

Bringing the phase timer length up again to the craft lead. I agree.

IIRC, my original pitch was to make the delays massive, not the actual phase times. Making the delays large already puts a stop to spam crafting, and I probably should've spoken up the other night when this conversation was going on, but I had other things on my mind.

I completely agree to up the timers. Because the way the crafts are set up now they're a wet dream for skill raising. If you lowered the phase timers it'd be even worse.

I honestly think metal armorcrafting, even at poor levels, should be at least amateur checks. Being a beginner in metalworking you shouldn't be able to skillfully make spooled metal and turn them into rings and assemble them skillfully. Want to be a metal armorer IG? Pick the skills necessary or actually spend the time it'd take to get the skills necessary. I shouldn't be able to put the stuff together for maille with 2-3 ingots of pitted iron and 2 teaches from someone with familiar metalcraft.

Woodcraft-timberwright: scout copse-for-tree
Phase 1: 30 seconds
Phase 2: 20 seconds Amateur Woodcraft skill required.
Phase 3: 20 seconds
Phase 4: 20 seconds
Phase 5: 20 seconds
Phase 6: 0 seconds
OOC Delay Timer: 60 RL Minutes
OOC Failure Timer: 30 RL Minutes

After the ironwood changes, I noticed that the default craft seems to no longer produce or require anything...?

I've yet to test it in the wild.

You are missing one or more items:

You need 9 of a length of $metaltype mail.

That happened when I got to the point making a hauberk that ate up the lengths. Even though I had 10 laying in the room and 9 were required.

2 RL hours worth of crafting got ate. :(

All the mail crafts are broke.

$aquality has skill-affect for Deflect, which it shouldn't, but I'm not sure if that's just a coded limitation of the prog or not.

Testing some of these later this week (Sunday?), unless someone else figures out what's going on.

Just a heads up, scout copse-for-tree is still broken, though the ironwood version is working normally.

Assemble butted-mail-chausses produces the hauberk from assemble butted-mail-hauberk. I'd also check if aquality is actually working on top of changing the deflect from wquality being on the item. Fulgrim loaded the object for me that the craft failed to at the medium quality and it had - deflect. If it was just going by the different levels of wquality it should've been even on deflect.

Scout copse-for-tree appears to have done the ghost craft thing. There's a copse of elm trees and one of beech I checked and it doesn't even show as a possible craft to run when you examine them. I didn't actually try to run it, but it still shows in my list and it's one of those that's got no item requirements or products now.

chop pork-belly is making mystery meats instead of just hunks of boar.

Going from spools to armoring rings the metal defaults to pitted-bog-iron. I just made a bunch of bog-iron and it all turned into pitted stuff.

Cooking: boil bland-greens

In Room (Reusable): a slim-handled $woodtype1 spoon, a long-handled $metaltype1 ladle, or a long-handled $woodtype1 ladle.

Cooking: cook boiled-carrots

Won't take a long handled $wood-type wooden spoon, don't allow spoon objects to be held.

Below is the craft to make maille gloves. I think the use of lengths need to be lowered quite a bit. Currently to make a set of gloves it takes half of what a hauberk is. I suggest it be lowered to 2 lengths of mail, one per glove. A little more then what a helmet takes and a little less then a full ingot.
Currently it'd be 2 full ingots of metal to make some.

Metal-armoring: assemble butted-mail-gauntlets
Phase 1: 30 seconds
In Room (Reusable): a broad workbench.
Phase 2: 30 seconds
Held or in Room (Consumed): 6 of a length of $metaltype mail.
In Room (Reusable): a $woodtype armor stand.
Phase 3: 30 seconds Amateur Metalcraft skill required.
Failure: a tangled mess of mail rings.
Phase 4: 30 seconds
Phase 5: 30 seconds Familiar Armorcraft skill required.
Failure: a tangled mess of mail rings.
Phase 6: 10 seconds
Produced: a rough pair of $ametaltype mail gauntlets.
OOC Delay Timer: 180 RL Minutes
OOC Failure Timer: 240 RL Minutes

Woodcrafting: construct wooden-bin
Phase 1: 15 seconds
In Room (Reusable): a broad workbench.
Held or in Room (Consumed): 4 of a $woodcolor plank of $woodtype wood.
Phase 2: 20 seconds
In Room (Reusable): a $metaltype crosscut saw.
Phase 3: 15 seconds Beginner Armorcraft skill required.
Phase 4: 20 seconds
Held (Reusable): a $metaltype0 carpenter's hammer.
Held or in Room (Consumed): 2 of a pile of $metaltype nails.
Held or in Room (Consumed): a $metaltype0 shield boss.
Phase 5: 15 seconds
OOC Delay Timer: 60 RL Minutes

This doesn't produce a bin and consumes a shield boss. Please fix!

Did I mention this is a wood working craft?

Nice catch, Matt.

Spangenhelms now require one ingot to create. Gauntlets will be slightly more than one ingot.

roast plain-meat
You check the flames in a [fire] to make certain they are not too hot nor too low for a twisted, bog-iron roasting spit.

You take the pointed end of a twisted, bog-iron roasting spit and pierce [some meat] with it to put the meat over the flames.

You give the meat some time to cook over the flames, keeping an eye on it as the juices drip into the fire, sparking and crackling.

You reach out to turn the meat by turning the wooden rod upon a twisted, bog-iron roasting spit

You press a finger against the meat to check it and pull it off of a twisted, bog-iron roasting spit, setting out a roasted chunk of [meat].

Code: Select all
This solid pocked bog iron rod is three feet in length, with a number of twists giving it a corkscrew-like appearance. Small rounded rings on both extremes allow it to be lofted on a hearth's andirons or a more haphazard campfire setup.

The fussy detail being that, from the above description, this isn't that kind of spit - there is no wooden rod. The bog iron rod IS the horizontal, turnable part. I believe "a crude roasting spit" is made of wood, but I don't have its description handy - the non-variable craft text should probably be materials-neutral.

Roast several-meats, same issue.

Also no OOC timer.

And cook boiled-carrots gives its product before the final line, which means you can either purpose stop it and avoid the timer or accidentally stop it, by picking up the product before the last phase fires (because it's targeted then).

Chop pork-belly is throwing out randomized meats.

You take up a sharp, pitted-bog-iron butcher knife and begin to slice a raw, thick belly of wild boar into usable portions of meat and fat. You set aside 12 hunk of raw horse meats and 6 chunk of raw boar fats, finishing your work.
