*after a bizarre dream of fish(with feet no less) trying to kill me last night* :shock:

More fish types, specifically

salmon
pickerel
carp or catfish
stickleback
grayling

muskellunge

Would fly fishing be canon for Middle-earth? If so, that would be a nice addition too.

I imagine it's something close to fly fishing as is. It's certainly not a rod and reel.

It would be different in that the casting techniques are far more difficult in casting a fly lure as opposed to a hook and bait which sinks and a fly that imitates bug behavior on top of the water

You're absolutely right, and I retract my statement. I think it'd be particularly fitting with a stream setting/object, from what little I know of fly fishing.

All good. :D Actually got me thinking how reels would fit in-game, but might not be much different then say a large wood spool.
We have metalcrafting, so even a metal spool might not be out of the question.

A slower time ratio. Maybe 3X?

It feels like the months are flying by in-game, and my PC's barely done anything.

Nah. I prefer four, though if the decision is to go with a slower day, eight-hour days would be tolerable. Nothing wonky like 10 though. I'd rather see healing ticks sped up. Healing's soooo slow here even for comparatively minor wounds.
For those who want to RP long-lasting wounds, add a set noheal option so the character doesn't heal and can have all the medical RP they want.

My wounds heal before my regular RP partners even get to see them, half the time.

(I'm not normally a fan of medical RP -- too dry, too procedural -- but I do like a little "What the heck happened to you?" interaction. Of course, dmotes work for that, but I feel obnoxious if I'm too dramatic with them. :P)

Anyway, different players, different preferences. There's room for everyone.

Longer days would mean longer nights, too, which would then mean nothing for combat characters to do for the majority of the RL day, unless they wanted to go out in the dark and die (most people don't want to do that).

How would people feel about lowering the number of objects in a room it takes before we see the condensed messages?
  • "The area is strewn with a number of objects."
    "The area is strewn with a staggering number of objects."
    Etc.
I honestly think the maximum number of items I want to see enumerated by default is like ... four or five. Tops. Alternatively, is or could there be a brief look command, to show only the room description? How about a 'look people' that works like 'look objects' or 'look furnishings' does now?

By the same token, how about putting hunger and thirst levels in the 'info' output? I can't see them on 'score' unless I scroll up.

Doesn't this work with 'look individuals?' Or does that command only work when there are heaps of PCs in the room and it gets truncated to 'There is a very large number of individuals in the room?'

Both of these would require a pretty extensive overhaul. If I remember correctly, old SoI used to have a 'position corpse' command that would sort of hackily omote it.

Mobs that give out howls, braying, chirps etc etc...
Could work on the 'whistle' line for them.. echoing out to a couple or more rooms..

A deer even though slinking in the bush won't stay quiet... Wolves, a couple of more rooms adjacent to you, howling.

Make the woods alive.
You hear a mournful howl somewhere from the north.
Scan north
You may (or may not) see a pack of wolves, howling, as they get your scent.

That was my initial reaction when I read this suggestion. Then I realized that wasn't what's meant. The exits are colored when you "look", yes.

But when you type "exit", the output isn't colored for water rooms. I have verified this.

It kind of sucks to be online long enough for three branches, but only get one because you're not willing to ditch RP to run off and spam-craft whenever your timer is up.

Hmm. Craft timers current do stack in a pool of time. IE- craft timers stack until you use up that available "working time."

So, do you mean them stacking further ... or?
