Player Comments (Reputation)

Post by Nimrod » Sun Feb 08, 2015 10:31 pm

Several other games allow players to give recognized kudos to other players in-game by leaving a short message that would then be attached to a person's file. There are a number of different ways to handle a system like this.

Do you think this is a good idea?

You can change your vote if you like.

My vote is no, because an integrated kudos system can be the weapon of some really immature players, to minus your kudos based on something you said, did, or didn't do that they personally didn't like.

I've had some bad experiences in the past with this sort of thing, and I'd rather it be something that's kept the way it is, with mini-messages left in the thread that we currently have.

Nothing more, nothing less.

I would vote no as well, given that I have seen first-hand how far some will go in order to try and get at other player in game. In a perfect world it'd be alright, but we don't live amongst perfection.

Now that we have hobbitmail back if you'd like to acknowledge another character you can do it that way too!

As far as this system I'm neither for nor against it. I like to hope that players wouldn't be so vindictive, and in the mean time there is the glorious hobbitmail to send messages with

You're awesome Grommit. Thanks for bringing back hmail!

I don't really feel one way or the other about this if people used it just to post positive. But I know how hard I would rage if someone tried to RP police or critique my RP without specifically asking for their opinion. Only people that should be able to do that are the admins of the game. So I voted no. Maybe just make a 'request opinions' thread or board?

I have nothing against it, but i hope it would track a per person rating as well.
That way if there is a problem person, their comments can be excluded from the overall score.
Every point ever made was an argument.

Also this. There are already have enough systems in place for this already.

Though nominate can only be done once a month, but I'm sure that can be changed pretty easily.

Nominate is a wonderful system, yes. Please use it.

Do you think someone should be able to read your nominate text? i.e. George nominates Harold with praise of a great rp session they had, should Harold be able to read that praise?

Should that praise be forever linked to their account?

I would like to know I got nominated and why, but not know who nominated me. Similarly, I would love to nominate people anonymously.

If I wanted to nominate somebody, I'd use the support ticket system. Don't have to be in the same room, don't have to be editing-oblivious in public, don't have to be in-game at all. Don't have to wait a month.

Regardless of how they're submitted, I'd prefer nominations be confidential, with the possible exception of a simple, anonymous 'somebody nominated you' ping. If I want pof Harold to hear my praise, I can Hobbitmail him. If I'm not doing that, then there's probably some reason for it (my praise reveals who I play, it reveals my character's secret IC thoughts about his, etc.).

With the nominate command, you can have the text already written out in notepad. This way you only spend a few seconds in editing mode.
