Forget Command?

Postby Mavinero » Thu Aug 10, 2017 6:02 pm

I know about the Ignore command, but why isn't there a Forget command? You know, one that you can flag certain skills with, and the points in them are reduced over time, funneling back into to your overall skill point pool?

Could that be a thing?

Skills: Focus

Usage: focus <skill name>

Your character has a cap of the total amount of combined points they
can have in all skills combined, determined primarily by their
intelligence. If you reach this cap at some point during the lifespan
of your character, you will be informed of this every time you use
the "skills" command.

Once your character hits this cap, any additional skill gains made
will come at the expense of an existing skill. You can control which
skills are eligible to be deducted by using the focus command. Any
skills that you "focus" on will not have points deducted when you
advance in another skill, instead, a skill that you are not focusing
on will be lowered.

Skills you are focusing on will be shown in blue and in brackets ().

To toggle this off and stop focusing on a skill, simply type
'focus <skillname>' again.

*** Press return to continue - 'q' to quit ***

A closely related command is "ignore", see HELP IGNORE for
information about this command.

Short answer? Put focus on everything but the skill you want to get rid of?

Using Ignore will stop gains in a skill, and pinpoint it as one to deduct from when maxed out for overall skill points.

Once the skill falls below the threshold for beginner, it will remove from the skill list.

If the skill is 10 or less, it will not show up on your skills output.

..and once it falls from the list, it removes those 9 points from your overall skill pool.

IIRC, ignore ignores a skill entirely, and doesn't give it any gains or losses - it'll stay where it is forever.

If you have a skill focused it will pull skill points from skills that are neither ignored nor focused.

Not quite correctly, Ignored and Focused skills can both gain points while you don't reach the cap of total skillpoints.
Once you reach this cap, every new point you gain in a skill will deduct one point from another one.
You focus a skill to avoid deducting points from it and ignore it to prioritize deducting points from it.
Please correct me if I'm wrong since I've never reached this cap with any PC.
